本书由著名敦煌学研究专家柴剑虹和刘进宝共同撰写，是一本讲述敦煌历史溯源及其文化艺术发展的普及读物。该书以图文并茂的形式从敦煌历史溯源、莫高窟的营建、藏经洞与敦煌遗书、敦煌宝藏的流失、敦煌壁画和彩塑艺术等几个方面，深入浅出地进行解读，全面展现敦煌1650余年的历史。全书配有45幅珍贵历史照片及高清精美壁画彩塑图片，另附一张由中国国家图书馆敦煌资料中心提供的《敦煌文献收藏单位一览表》，堪称一本集知识性、实用性、艺术性和时代性于一体的敦煌文化简明读本。 Dunhuang, co-authored by Chai Jianhong and Liu Jinbao, both renowned Dunhuangologists,introduces to general readers the history and culture of Dunhuang, a city in the People’s Republicof China. With 45 precious historical photos and beautiful HD mural paintings as well as a list of institutionswith the collection of Dunhuang literature provided by the Dunhuang Resource Center of theNational Library of China, the book offers an authoritative interpretation of the city’s over 1650years of history, the building of the Mogao Caves, the discovery of the Library Cave and the loss ofits treasures, and the murals and colored sculptures in the grottos of Dunhuang. It is conciselyinformative and considerately practical with artistic originality.

作者介绍

柴剑虹，中国敦煌吐鲁番学会顾问、敦煌研究院兼职研究员、浙江大学、中国人民大学等高校兼职教授。1966 年北京师范大学中文系毕业后志愿赴新疆教学，1978年师从启功先生攻读中国古代文学硕士研究生。1981年到中华书局工作，曾任文学编辑室编辑、《文史知识》杂志副主编兼编辑部主任、汉学编辑室主任、编审，因在新闻出版事业上的突出贡献自1993年10月起享受政府特殊津贴。 刘进宝，浙江大学历史系主任、博士生导师，兼任国家社科基金学科评审专家、中国敦煌石窟保护研究基金会理事、中国敦煌吐鲁番学会理事、中国唐史学会理事、浙江省敦煌学与丝绸之路研究会副会长。长期从事敦煌吐鲁番文书、丝绸之路暨西北史地、隋唐五代史研究，著有《敦煌学述论》《敦煌文书与唐史研究》《敦煌学通论》《丝绸之路敦煌研究》等。
