本书是一部记载中国火车头发展历程的文化随笔。旧中国有着“万国蒸汽机车博物馆”之称，破旧的铁路线上行使着200多种型号的外国机车。新中国铁路飞速发展，从主力军前进型蒸汽机车，到大功率和谐型内燃、电力机车，再到智能化的复兴号高速列车，中国铁路一举跨入世界铁路先进行列。中国火车头的轨迹。见证了落后挨打的悲剧，铭刻着奋发图强的脚印，书写着当代中国的辉煌。

作者介绍

王雄，中国作家协会会员，汉水文化学者。下过乡，开过火车。历任郑州铁路局党委宣传部部长，铁道部政治部宣传部副部长，中国铁路总公司宣传部副部长，《人民铁道》报党委书记、社长。现任中国铁路作家协会主席，西南大学兼职教授。1989年开始文学创作，著有小说、散文、报告文学、学术论著多部（篇），共计520多万字。多篇小说被《小说选刊》《中篇小说选刊》转载。代表作有长篇小说《阴阳碑》《传世古》《金匮银楼》（合称“汉水文化三部曲”），长篇报告文学《中国速度——中国高速铁路发展纪实》由外文出版社以中、英、法、德、俄、日、西、阿8个文版出版发行。《传世古》（中文版）荣获第八届中国铁路文学奖一等奖，由外文出版社出版英文版，面向国内外发行。
